Our “Inspiration Feeder” presents to you short interviews with interesting visual artists from around the globe. Today in focus: Bogdan Kotewicz.
How old are you?
I am 55 years old.
Where do you come from?
I was born and grew up in Poland and live in France in the suburbs of Paris since many years.
How long have you been doing photography?
My first contact with photography dates from my teens. I then discovered traditionnal photography and the magic of the development’s process in my improvised home-made lab. Unfortunately this fascination did not last long and interest in photography gave way to others, not always artistic, activities. Nevertheless, my artistic inclinations nerver left me and I always felt the need to express it. Some years ago my this interest reemerged and has since become a real passion that never left me.
How would you define your style?
It is a difficult question for me. I have never tried to fit into a particular style and I believe that nothing is ever definitive. Our life is a process of constant change, which has a significant impact on what we do at each moment, which also determines how we will live in the future…
But back to the question – maybe my approach to photography is a little unusual today but for some time now I have realized that I am more and more interested in interpreting the reality around us in my own way rather than rigorously reproducing it on my images.
How long do you think it took you to find your personal style of shooting?
I think it took about 3-4 years.
What would you say is the thing that most inspires you? / What is your main source of inspiration?
Anything can inspire me, an image, a painting, a scene in the street, or more broadly speaking a scene of life , an emotion … – yes I think my main source of inspiration is simply everything that causes an emotion in me, which touches me, which awakens my feelings …
