“An engineer by heart and education. A lover of order and minimalism. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of being a photographer. In 2009, I changed my lifestyle and began to fulfill my childhood dreams. In 2011, I gave myself a DSLR and started taking pictures again. In 2014, I felt the need to I found a way to turn my photography into art and fate met me with Ivaylo Stoyanov. Since then I have been working in the field of conceptual photography. I am also trying to be a chronicler of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and it will be 10 years since I explored it photographically. I believe that someone one day something documentary will come out of this research of mine. I love photographing people as they are. I believe that we are all beautiful and I’m looking for a way to show that.”
This is how Vladi introduced himself. And with the answers to the questions below, I hope you will be able to touch his soul.
Who/what is your ‘light’ in life, Vladi?
My family and the sea. Both motivate me to live and create today and now.
What is photography to you? What does it give you? And does it take anything and what?
Photography is a way of self-expression. We photographers are people who usually can’t draw. Photography is freedom and a way to show people what you think and feel without drawing and writing. A way to make people think about the image you have created for them. I don’t think it takes anything from me, because we are in symbiosis and balance.
Where do you look for and find inspiration?
The sea is my muse. I can contemplate it endlessly, ponder and think of new projects. There are 2 places in Bulgaria that give me peace – Sinemorets and the west coast of Cape Kaliakra just above the Zelenka area.
If you could change the world, what would you do?
I would make people more educated and free-thinking.
What are you dreaming about, Vladi?
To have time for more photography projects, to give myself a medium format camera, to sail a yacht around the world
What is your dream photography project?
I don’t have a specific one. They always appear from somewhere and I follow them.
If you could have a superpower, what would you choose? How would you use it?
May the force be with me (Yoda). I will help everyone be on the bright side.
What is the thing that sets you apart from the rest?
I haven’t found it yet, but I’ll let you know if I do.
What does the sea mean to you?
My muse and love. I try every year in the summer, because the water is warm, to go into the sea naked and merge. This year I was lucky enough to go into the water at night and see how the plankton glows when you walk through it, you understand how we all came from this water.
Who is the photographer you admire the most? Why? What is your favorite photo of him and why?
Andreas Gursky because he finds order in everything.
A beautiful minimalistic order. Endless detail and subject matter for reflection, such as the man and the road across the river.
Recommend us a book/movie
“Mission Earth” book by L. Ron Hubbard,Tarkovsky movie “Stalker”
What is the best advice you have received?
“Those who work, things happen to them” – Ivaylo Stoyanov
Ask yourself a question and answer…
Why do you shoot on film? Because I like the aesthetics and it slows down the process in this endlessly fast world.
